Welcome to the Island
Come stay a while.
“The island had a hum to it. A low soft vibration that I felt in the still of the night. There was a darkness, something just beneath the surface. A heavy weight that blanketed it all, and I felt it the instant my feet touched the shore. It was beautiful in the day, but the evenings brought shadows of the past. Whispers of what was. I could hear them crying out, howling- their voices carried on the winds.”
-Jane Rutts
Hi, I’m Jessica!
I write novels, short stories and poetry
As a native Georgian, the history of the south and places like Jekyll Island are close to my heart. I enjoy writing female protagonists that show the complexity of human emotion and relationships and revel in blurring the lines between reality and fiction in the written word. I hold an MFA in creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University, where I also work.
Coming Soon!
Vera Hart and Jane Rutts grow up as sisters. Vera marries Edward English, and he whisks her away to Jekyll Island, Georgia in 1911, a playground for the world’s rich and elite. Unable to part, Jane steps in as Vera’s ladies’ maid. Vera has her faith and sanity questioned when she experiences haunting visions and what island natives believe is a curse for disturbing their ancestors. Mr. Aspin, a deceptive man motivated by jealousy and desire, lures Vera away from her husband. He seeks to have Vera for himself or be her demise. As her marriage hangs in the balance, she discovers how much she loves her husband, how little she knows about her trusted Jane and what she truly desires. The island’s end of season party brings an end to more than just the winter retreat.
